On November 11, 2025, the update meeting of the EcoWheataly project was held at the CREA Headquarters in Rome (Via Barberini 36, 5th floor meeting room). The event focused on the analysis of agricultural policies, sustainable practices, and innovations related to wheat production in Italy.
The meeting, coordinated by Edmondo Di Giuseppe (CNR), brought together researchers from the CNR, CREA, and the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, providing an overview of the results achieved and outlining future research directions for the coming months.
During the morning session, the following topics were presented:
- the progress of project objectives (Di Giuseppe, CNR);
- the use of RICA data for economic evaluation (Cardillo, CREA);
- the analysis of Italian durum wheat producers based on the 7th Agricultural Census (Quaresima, CNR);
- a focus on cultivation techniques and behavioral economics in farmers’ decision-making (Del Signore, Cascioli, UNICH);
- the ABM and LCA models developed to simulate environmental and production impacts (Giulioni, Ceccarelli, UNICH);
- and the communication of results through the EcoWheataly blog (Zappitelli, CNR).
The final session, chaired by Marco Simonetti and Alessandro Manna (CNR), was dedicated to collecting suggestions to improve the usability of the project website and to planning the final conference, scheduled for spring 2026.
EcoWheataly stands as a bridge between scientific research and sustainable communication, integrating expertise in agronomy, economics, and environmental policy to highlight the role of wheat in Europe’s green transition.
