The ECOWHEATALY project at the AIAM 2025 Conference.

From 11 to 13 June 2025 we participated in the XXVII National Conference of the Italian Association of Agrometeorology (AIAM), entitled “Agrometeorology: from information to application”, hosted at the AMAP (Agency for Innovation in the Agri-food and Fisheries Sector of the Marche), Osimo (AN).

The conference represented an important opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion on the topics of applied agrometeorology, with numerous contributions on decision support tools, sustainable management of resources and mitigation of climate impacts in agriculture.

In this context, we presented the poster entitled “Integrating economic optimization and life cycle assessment in Italian wheat farming: a web-based interface”, dedicated to the platform developed within the ECOWHEATALY project.

The project aims to analyze the potential of agricultural policies in promoting more sustainable practices in the cultivation of durum wheat in Italy, even in times of crisis. The platform presented is a free and interactive tool that allows to estimate, on a provincial and altimetric basis, the optimal levels of agricultural inputs (fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides) capable of maximizing company profit.

The results are then analyzed through a life cycle assessment (LCA) based on the ReCiPe 2016 method, which returns environmental indicators relating to human health (DALY) and biodiversity (annual loss of local species).

The interface makes these indicators understandable and accessible, contributing to greater awareness of the environmental impact of company choices and supporting more informed and sustainable decisions.
